Unique Batik Necklace

Hi Everyone!

I'm thrilled once again have a necklace design included in Beadwork Magazine.  This is my Unique Batik Necklace.  It's included in the Fast and Fabulous section of the June/July issue.  Our inspiration for that month was to use mainly black and white in our compositions.

Beadwork Magazine June/July 2020
This necklace is created using mainly using batik beads and howlite beads.  Batik beads are created using carved bone pieces which are then bleached in the sun.  Hot wax is applied to create a pattern.  Then, the beads are dyed with a natural dye.  The wax acts as a resist, leaving a white or cream pattern in contrast to the brown or black dye.

For more on this ancient process, check out this link.  And, try your own version with these fascinating beads.  Look for more Fast and Fabulous black and white necklace designs in Beadwork's June/July 2020 issue.

Vintage Bouquet Necklace

Hi everyone!  Happy New Year!

Today I'm happy to share a new published design with you.  It's in the February/March issue of Beadwork magazine with lots of other beautiful designs.

Mine is in the Fast and Fabulous section and the theme was leather and lace.  I love that combination and had a lot of fun creating a Vintage Bouquet Necklace with layers of brass filigree, leather and crochet lace flowers and vintage-style buttons.

Beadwork Feb/March 2020
Here's my photo of the necklace.
The motifs will overlap a little when you wear it.  These layered flowers are so versatile - imagine one on a bracelet or even a small one on a ring.  These leather flowers are easy to make with a die cutter or you can make your own.  You can even buy them pre-cut! So many possibilities for vintage goodness!

Wishing you a very creative New Year!

Over-the-top Sparkle

Hi everyone!

Beadwork showcases some Fast and Fabulous necklaces in their December 2019/January 2020 edition that are just the thing to add some glitter and glam to your outfit for a party or night out on the town.  Whether you want understated elegance or a full on statement necklace, there is something for everyone!

Here's my contribution to the glitter - my Silver Sparkle Necklace.  It's got a lot of swing to it, making it perfect for dancing.  These silvery glass beads have a unique cut called step faceting, so they really catch the light.  They are like mini disco balls!

I decided this necklace wasn't complete without a pair of earrings, and I had some extra beads, so - voila!

Now, I'm ready for some dancing!  No, wait, maybe a bracelet...

I got my copy a little early, so the issue isn't available generally yet.  But, in a few days, you should be able to find it on the website here.  As usual, it is filled with fabulous designs in bead weaving along with the Fast and Fabulous sparkle.  I love the ornaments on the front cover.  One of these days, I'll try one of those!

If you like the beads I used, you can find the Silver Iris faceted 4mm beads here and for the 8mm beads, go here.  Or, search halcraftcollection.com

Time to get your sparkle on!
Happy beading,
Terry

Love is the Key

Hi Everyone!

I am so excited to share that I have been published in Beadwork magazine again.  I just got my advance copy of the October/November issue.  I hope you will look for it on the shelves soon.  There are so many wonderful designs and information in it.  I am so blessed to be included in such splendid company!

Beadwork October/November 2019
I'm in the 9 Easy Mindfulness Beaded Jewelry Designs that is across the top of the magazine.  These are the Fast and Fabulous designs that are mainly strung designs.  I like that Beadwork incorporated stringing in their magazine along with the woven designs.  Someday, I'll take the time to try one of those fabulous designs.  For now, I am enjoying incorporating different kinds of beads - ceramic, wood, clay, glass - along with a little wire, a little fiber and some patina in my jewelry designs.  Here's what I came up with for this issue:
Love is the Key
It was so much fun designing for a mindfulness theme.  "Love is the Key" represents my philosophy on life's journey and it flowed out in this design.  And, of course, it's in my favorite shades of blue!

Here's a photo that I took showing the necklace in a little different view.

Beachcombing Necklace

Hi everyone!

Thanks for stopping by.  I am pleased to be able to share one of my necklace designs with you today.  This one is published in the June/July issue of Beadwork in the Fast and Fabulous section.

I love the ocean and visit as often as I can.  But, when I can't visit, I like reminders of it - a shell, a piece of driftwood, a shiny rock or sea glass.  With this necklace, I've created a collection of elements you might find on the beach - a piece of driftwood, different types of shells and sea glass beads.  But, the matte beads in the necklace weren't churned by the ocean.  I used etchall® dip 'n etch to create the soft, matte surface on shiny, glass beads.  It's so easy and quick to do this (15 minutes!) and I love the look.  Go to this post to see the easy process or search my blog for etched jewelry.

I really had a lot of fun making this one.  It's a freeform style that's open to whatever you have around as far as shells, wood chips and beads. And it's all knotted making it easy and quick to do.

Here it is hanging on a wooden stand:

The editors and photographers at Beadwork did a fabulous job of photographing and showing the details of this necklace, so I hope you'll check out the magazine.  You can get it in print and digital.

Ocean Moods Necklace

Hi Everyone!

I'm so excited to finally be able to share the publication of one of my designs in Beadwork magazine!
I created this back in June, so it's a while between creation and publication!

I love the ocean and I always love to create in ocean colors.  Here I used blues and greens with bits of purple and brown.  All the beads were from Halcraft, which you can find online or at Michaels.  I chose some of their beautiful agate and amazonite slices, cut points and rounds in fire crackle agate for the main beads and accented them with smaller rounds and rondelles.  It's very easy to put together also with easy knotting on waxed linen.

Look for Beadwork magazine online or in your favorite craft store.  It's chock full of great designs in stitched beading as well as a section on stringing (there are nine strung necklaces in this issue!).

Here it is in Beadwork in the "fast and fabulous" section:

Fast and Fabulous Tassels

Hi all!

Beadwork for August/September is out and I'm happy to announce that I have a necklace published in the Fast and Fabulous section.

In this issue, the Fast and Fabulous section is devoted to tassels - all kinds.  So whether you like thread, ribbon, chain, leather or mixed tassels, there is one for you. Elegant or casual, they've got them!  And, you'll recognize the designers - Tamara Honaman, Fernando Dasilva, Nealay Patel, Debbie Blair and more - I've admired their work for a long time.

Here's the one I made with strips of my husband's old shirts, yarn, sari silk ribbon, chain and a little leather.  I found my bead cap in the plumbing aisle of my local hardware.  So, with the copper cap and the recycled bits in the tassel, the editor named it Plumb Scrappy!  So punny!

I love to create with recycled materials and use up some of the bits in the cupboards and bins.  What do you have that you can create with?  I hope this idea inspires you.  And, do check out Beadwork and see all the beautiful designs.

Here are the tassels in an article from Interweave.

Best of Jewelry Stringing

Hi all!

I just received my copy of Best of Jewelry Stringing magazine in which I have a small part.  It's so nice to see Stringing again.  I love looking at all the beautiful designs for inspiration.  They always have the most interesting designs with innovative uses of components.  As a jewelry designer, it's always been one of my favorites and I was sad to see it go earlier this year.

Get your copy of the Best of Jewelry Stringing today and maybe they'll bring the magazine back!  (I can always hope, right?)

Also, if you like the style of Stringing, there are some designs included in Interweave's bead stitching magazine, Beadwork, under Fast and Fabulous.

Happy Creating!
