Button Heart

The month of Valentines and Hearts is coming up, so I thought I'd create a button heart.  I love working with Gwen Studios buttons.  They come in so many pretty colors!

For this heart, you will need 14-gauge aluminum wire, 24-gauge craft wire and buttons.  You'll also need wire cutters and roundnose pliers.

Cut 12" of 14-gauge wire. This is aluminum wire which is easy to bend.

Bring the ends together to create the point of the heart and crease the fold.

Bring the ends round to crisscross in the center.

Using round nose pliers, make a loop on one side over the opposite wire.  Repeat for the other side.

Wrap a length of 24-gauge wire around the heart on one side of the point.  String on a button through one hole, pull the button up to the wire and go through an opposite hole.  Go around the heart wire twice.  String on a second button in the same manner and overlap the first.  Repeat the process laying one button over and the next under.

When you are finished covering the heart with buttons, wrap the wire around the base several times to secure it.

Add a hanging loop with thread to the top of the heart.

This project was made with Gwen Studios buttons. You can find them at Walmart.com or in your local Walmart. Gwen Studios has a lot of assorted colors for all crafting seasons!
