Amethyst and Filigree Festoon Necklace

Hi Creative Friends!

When I saw this blog hop for Edwardian-style jewelry over on Beading Daily, I thought - this is right up my alley.
I'm a big fan of vintage jewelry including everything from the ancient Greeks and Egyptians to Renaissance to more modern Victorian and Art Deco. But, I especially like the intricate romantic Edwardian styles.  So, I designed an Amethyst and Filigree Festoon Necklace for the occasion.

I think this is a very wearable Edwardian necklace.  It is certainly not as elaborate as some festoon necklaces, but it picks up some of the style with filigree, amethyst Czech glass and mauve glass pearls.

Here it is on a necklace form:

To read more about Edwardian jewelry and see another design I created, look here on the Cousin blog.  And, I've written and designed a book of my design impressions of vintage jewelry, Vintage Impressions Jewelry.  It's got a range of vintage styles with tidbits of historical information about Victoriana.

Thanks for stopping by!

Fun with Smoothfoam!

Hi Crafty Friends!

I'm back from the CHA and trying to catch up on all the chores I left behind, design a few projects and put away the new goodies from the show.  But, first, a few photos from the show.

This last year, I have had the pleasure of working for Smoothfoam.  They had a great booth at the CHA show with a Make It/Take It going on in one corner with a demo on the other.  All the projects made by the Creativity Team were on a tower in the center.  It looked great!

Here I am doing a MITI of a Fabrige Egg in the booth.

The project I taught at the show is up on the Smoothfoam blog.  The other projects will be up on the blog soon.

Here's a project I created for Smoothfoam in December.  He's my version of an elf that can sit on a shelf.  Or, all in green, he would make a cute leprechaun!  Or, how about in brown as a little pixie?  You can find the instructions on the blog here.

Here's a little Rusty Snowman that I created for January.

He's up on the Smoothfoam blog here.

Designer Crafts Connection - What's new?

Hi Crafty Friends!

Happy New Year!  And, welcome to the first Monday of the month blog post for the Designer Crafts Connection!

This month we're taking a look at our favorite ideas or techniques.  A lot of us designers are getting ready for the Winter CHA Show in Anaheim, California, so we will have lots of new ideas and techniques and supplies to show you in the coming months.  As I prepared to set up my Designer Showcase for the show,  I decided to make something new and I thought I'd share it with you.

We usually set up on a 6' table with the back against a curtain or another display.  Here's my display from last year.
This year, our showcases will be more like an art gallery.  Our displays for the show are on a pedestal and the surface is 36" square and 42" high.   Now, our displays will have a 360-degree view, so we have to design with that in mind.

To create my display, I used 3 canvas-covered frames.  I painted them tan.  Then, I cut foam board to fit in the backs of the frames.  I covered the foam board with quilt padding and then glued burlap over the top. I put these inside the back of the frames and hinged them together accordian-style.  This creates a standing display where I hang my jewelry samples and add signs or pictures.

Here's what it looks like so far:

I add some splashes of paint and some brown ink to give it an shabby, vintage look.  I also added some upholstery tacks here and there.  I glued tan twill tape around the edges to cover the canvas edges and the staples.  You could add other objects or papers or stamp on it.  It's very versatile and...

folds up to fit in your suitcase!

More photos to follow from the show itself!

Happy crafting!

Jewelry Stringing - Winter 2014

Brass Botanicals

Hi Crafty Friends!

I'm delighted once again to have a couple of my jewelry designs in the Winter 2014 issue of Jewelry Stringing.  Here's the necklace as it appears in the photo I took on my deck.  I'm pretty happy with my photography here, but I love what the Stringing staff did with my necklace in the magazine.  You can see it on page 38 of the magazine.  I am enjoying adding more fiber to my jewelry diet with some recycled sari ribbon!

I also have a pair of earrings on the earrings page.
One of the themes in the magazine this time was royalty and these earrings were created with that theme in mind.  There are some wonderful necklaces inspired by this popular trend in the magazine this time.

I've also decided to become an affiliate of Interweave, so you'll see links to their website and special offers from them.  If you click on them and decide to purchase a pattern, kits, books or magazine from them, I get a percentage of the sale.  They've got some great offers right now.  Here's one below and there are a couple of others on my sidebar.

French Knit Ornaments

Hi Crafty Friends!

Here are some quick and easy ornaments to make.  And, who doesn't need quick and easy this time of year!  They are made on the French Knitter and were featured in the weekly online magazine from Crafts 'n things earlier this month.  You can find the instructions on their website.  Here's the photo from their website showing them on a tree.

This is a great project for kids of all ages and, of course, can be made with any color or type of yarn you happen to have on hand.  Another plus!

Happy crafting, decorating, baking and shopping!

Hi Crafters!

Looking for something elegant to wear to your next party?  I have just the design! It's a Blue and Silver Bib Necklace.

Blue and Silver Bib Necklace

It can be found in the weekly at Crafts 'n things here.  Yes, you have to have a subscription, but I think it is well worth it.  Not only do you get the print magazine, but you also get a weekly online magazine with lots of great ideas!  (No, I don't work for them, but I've been a fan for years, and they occasionally print and pay me for my designs.)

Here it is on a stand:
